Životopis:
Narozen v. r. 1961 v Olomouci. Studoval na Fakultě jaderné a fyzikálně inženýrské ČVUT (1981–82) a na PřF UP (1982–87, matematická informatika); RNDr. 1987, CSc. 1993. V r. 1992 absolvoval pobyt jako Masaryk Fellow of the University of London, 1994–95 The American Studies Program Fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies. Od r. 1989 je zaměstnán na FÚ AV ČR, v současné době je vedoucím pracovní skupiny logiky. Na FF UK předná‘í filozofickou logiku. Jako hostující badatel působil na univerzitách ve Finsku (Helsinki, Turku, Tampere), Velké Británii (Londýn) a USA (Chapel Hill, NC). V r. 1995 obdržel Cenu Josefa Hlávky. Je členem Gesellschaft für analytische Philosophie, The Association for Foundations of Science, Language and Cognition, The Czech National Committee of the International Union for History, Methodology and Philosophy of Science. Je rovněž členem ediční rady časopisu pro analytickou filozofii Organon-F.

Specializace:
Jeho obor a specializaci představuje logika, filozofická logika, filozofie logiky, neklasické logiky, logická analýza přirozeného jazyka, analytická filozofie a metaetika. Zabývá se zvlá‘tě vztahem filozofie a logiky, povahou a teoriemi pravdy, pojmem faktu v analytické filozofii a logice, intenzionální logikou (předev‘ím transparentní intenzionální logikou P. Tichého) a její aplikací v analýze přirozeného jazyka, deontickou logikou a logickým usuzováním v morálním diskursu (ve spolupráci s V. Svobodou) a logicko-filozofickými aspekty vágnosti.
