BA Programme Admissions Procedure for the Academic Year 2012/2013

(general entrance exams information for the Faculty of Arts in Czech)

  • Programmes offered:
  • Single-subject BA programme
  • Two-subject BA programme (no restrictions on combinability)
 
  •  Expected number of students admitted: 80 (last year 93 out of 454 applicants were admitted)                                

 

Entrance examination - Bc 

Written test (maximum number of points for the test: 50, number of points needed to proceed to the oral part: 25):

  1. Reading Comprehension: multiple choice, understaning a popular-scientific text
  2. Grammar: practical language test (gap-filling)
  3. Critical writing: a short essay on a literary topic
  4. Linguistics: knowledge of  the English language system and lexis as well as the basic grammatical terminology, the tasks are in Czech
  5. Culture Test: knowledge of the terminology of literary theory and social sciences in general, and of the literatures and cultural history of English-speaking countries

Oral interview (in English):

  1. spoken English – the assessment of the applicant's pronunciation, grammar and linguistic competence   
  2. literatures and cultures of English-speaking countries, the reading list (see below)
  3. motivation
Reading list
During the interview the applicant has to submit a reading list comprising the works of English-writing authors (fiction as well as academic books dealing with the English language, literatures, cultures or history). The list should include both the books that the applicant has read in the English original and those in translation. The list will usually contain about 20 books.
