Prof. Mgr. Miroslav Bárta, Dr.

Miroslav Bárta graduated in Egyptology and Prehistoric and Early Historic Archaeology at Charles University in Prague. Ph.D. studies in Prague and Hamburg. In 2002 habilitation in Egyptology and since 2009 professor of Egyptology. Main fields of research: archeology and history of the third and sekond millenia B.C., landscape archeology in antiquity, rise and fall of complex societies, interdisciplinary research, archaeological background of the Old Testament. Since 1991 excavating in Egypt, 2003-2008 research of the Western Desert, since 2009 working also in Sudan. In 2002 led the first detailed satelite mapping of the pyramid fields of Abusir, Saqqara and Dahshur. 2003-2004 teaching at UPenn, Philadelphia, PA.

Professional Career:

1994 graduation in Egyptology & Archaeology;
1997 PhD. dissertation in Egyptology;
since 1993 full time member of the Czech Institute of Egyptology in Prague and Cairo;
2000-2004 deputy director of the Czech National Centre for Egyptology;
2002 habilitation in Egyptology;
since 2003 tenure track position as Associate Prof. in Egyptology, Charles University, Prague;
since 2005 principle coordinator for research and scientific program of the 'Civilization of Ancient Egypt' project of the Institute (MŠM grant No. 0021620826

2003-2004 Fulbright Professor of Egyptology, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia;
2001 The A. W. Mellon Fellowship at the American Archaeological Institute, Jerusalem (Project 'The Interactions of Egypt, Sinai and Southern Palestine During the Late Old and the Middle Kingdom (EB IV - MB IIA)'),

2000 Michela Schiff Giorgini prize;
