Prehistorical Rock drawings found in Wadi el-Doum

Farouk Hosni, Egypt’s minister of culture, announced that the survey mission of the supreme council of Antiquities succeed to discover 7 rock drawings dated back to the prehistorical period in the area of Wadi el-Doum and Wadi el-Resses which is located 80 km from the Ain al-Sokhna city.

A Middle Kingdom artifact

The Supreme Council of Antiquities managed to stop selling an artifact which was exhibited in Cresty Hall in New York. The artifact dates back to the Middle Kingdom, specifically the reign of King Amenmehat III. It has the shape of a duck and contained offerings.

The removal of the Statue of Ramses II

The red granite statue of Ramses II now stands before the Babul Hadid Train Station in downtown Cairo. It is one of the most splendid statues carved for this renowned pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty, who lived for 90 years and ruled Egypt for 67 years.

The Coptic museum in a new view

Last month President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt inaugurated the Coptic Museum in Old Cairo. The private opening of this landmark building was well attended, with a tour given by Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture, and Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), around the museum’s 26 halls displaying 13,000 splendid artifacts relating Egypt’s Coptic history from the 4th century AD until modern times.

A new discovery of a Greek inscription at the Pompey Pillar in Alexandria

Culture minister of Egypt Farouk Hosni announced today that the Egyptian archeological mission working in the Pompey Pillar zone in Alexandria succeeded to discover a Greek inscription on a block written during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (180-161 B.C). The inscription was accidentally found during the mission's routine excavation works.

Oldest wooden statues found in Egypt

Farouk Hosni, Egypt's minister of culture stated that the polish archaeological team in the northern Nile Delta at Tell al-Farkha, made a stunning discovery. The most interesting results received till now were the oldest breweries found in the Nile Delta "from a period of about 3500 BC". The team has also found warehouses connected with the Naqada culture, dated to Naqada II D – III A period and a small late predynastic – Early dynastic cemetery with 33 graves belonging to middle and lower social class.

The Egyptian archeological mission has discovered two sarcophagi near the great pyramids of Giza.

KV 63

Following the groundbreaking discovery of tomb KV63, five meters far from the tomb of the boy king Tutankhamun, Dr. Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), and Dr. Otto Shaden from Memphis University and the discoverer of this tomb have opened today the last sarcophagus out of seven discovered in the tomb. Inside the sarcophagus, embalming materials, different from those previously found, have been revealed. They include gilded collars ornamented with flowers that were put on the deceased, sticks, golden shreds, clay fragment and a number of linen pieces. Resin and natron have been also found.

The Gospel of Judas

An early Christian leather-bound codex identified as the Gospel of Judas was discovered perhaps in the early 1970s in Middle Egypt and at some point later smuggled out of the country. In bad condition when discovered, it suffered further damage from the handling it received while on the illegal antiquities market. In the 1980s, it came into the care of the Maecenas Foundation for Ancient Art in Basel, Switzerland.

New tomb unearthed in Dra Abu Al Naga

Dr Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the supreme council of Antiquities (SCA) stated that the Egyptian-Spanish team discovered a hall of a tomb at Dra Abu Al Naga on the west bank of the Nile, as it was excavating the tomb site, which could yield important information about how ancient Egyptians dug their tombs.

Egypt's minister of Culture Farouk Hosni announced that French and Egyptian mission have discovered two sets of solid gold cartouches, bearing the name of Thotmusis III, near the Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut in Luxor temple.

The mask of "Ka – nefer – nefer" second time !!

In a press conference held today in the premise of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), Dr. Zahi Hawass secretary general of the SCA asserted that May 15 was the final dead line given to St. Louis Art Museum (SLAM) to return Ka-nefer-nefer´s mask stolen and smuggled out of Egypt sometimes in the late 1950's.

More ancient war goddess statues unearthed in Egypt

The mask of Ka Nefer Nefer returns to Egypt

Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities formally requested the return of the piece known as the mask of Ka Nefer Nefer, which the museum says dates back to the 19th Dynasty, 1307-1196 BCE, and had been spotted by an Egyptologist on a recent tour of the Missouri museum collection.

During the preparation for the third International Symposium on Coptic studies, Gawdat Gabra, Coptologist said that, Fawzi Estephanos the president of the St Mark Foundation for Coptic Studies, along with members of the organizing committee, decided to stage a public presentation on the event at the Coptic Cathedral. The third symposium, which followed those convened in monasteries in Wadi Al-Natrun and Al-Fayoum, lasted until the 7th February.

The ancient Egyptian fleet sailing to Punt

Farouk Hosni, Egypt's minister of culture announced that the Boston university mission in co-operation with an Italian mission from Nibelz University discovered the remains of huge fleets used by ancient Egyptians for sailing to Punt in the site called Marsa el-Gawasis (Spy's Anchorage) 23 kilometers south of Safaga's cost on the Red Sea.

Queen Tiye

Farouk Hosni Egypt's minister of culture announced that the John Hopkins University archaeological mission discovered a beautiful black granite statue of Queen Tiye, one of the most important women in ancient Egypt. She was the wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, and mother of the monotheistic king Akhenaten. Her statue was discovered at the Mut Temple in Karnak.

Restoration of the Graeco- Roman museum is under way

In the framework of the ministry of culture and the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) for restoring museums all over Egypt, Farouk Hosni, Egypt's minister of culture announced that the work on renewing the Graeco-Roman museum is underway. He also decided to pack and transport the chosen objects to be displayed in their new homes at the Alexandria National Museum and the maritime museum.
