Virtual Library of German Periodicals published in Bohemia

at the Institute of Germanic Studies, Prague, Czech Republic

About us

The Institute of Germanic Studies administers an extensive collection of German periodicals from the second half of the 19th century to the onset of the World War II being released in the former Czechoslovakia, particularly in the so called Sudetenland. In the library, you can find prefaces and Contents-pages of selected periodicals. Full texts of the respective articles are being attached continuously according to the users' orders. The main purpose of this library is to make these unique literary monuments accesible to the extent possible. On request, we will scan selected texts and make them available for all library users as PDF-documents to download.

However, there is another background thougt behind the library-idea: we hope to exchange our texts for up-to-date publications we are interested in. Therefore, we kindly ask every user to choose a title from our wishlist and to send it to us within 2 months from his or her order. The constantly updated wishlist is included in each order form. We are grateful for documents in all electronic formats, per fax or per mail (address see above).

This project has been supported by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (grant FRVŠ 2003/2097).

For the first idea, we have to thank to Dr. Helena Dewetterová at Academic Information and Library Centre at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy.
